Lost Motivation? Here’s the One Question That Will Reignite Your Fire

I was talking to an athlete friend the other day, and she vented about her feelings as an entrepreneur and what direction she wanted to go in with her business. She has lost motivation, and her passion when she started is dwindling, and she wondered if getting a job and keeping this on the side would be best. I asked her, “What is your vision for your business? As a matter of fact, what is your vision for your life?”

Do you remember when you first started playing your sport? It was fun, everyone was bad, and snacks were the best part of the day. Eventually, you got better, competition got tougher, and the sport required more time and energy. Before you know it, the sport is not as fun as it was when you first started. Actually, you’re tired of practicing every single day, and there may be some envy towards your friends who have some free time on the weekends. But when the going gets tough, you remember why you’re doing it. You think of the scholarship offer, the championship, the destination.

If you don’t have a vision for every area of your life, it’s going to be hard to keep going. And maybe when you put the effort towards defining your end goal, you’ll find that the effort you’re putting in isn’t justified, or that hustle should be on the side, or it is time to pivot. There is no right answer except for you doing what makes sense to create your desired life.

If you think of your dream life and what you’re doing right now (regardless of how you feel about it at the moment) is a catalyst to getting you there then keep pushing and don’t you dare quit!
